Isi artikelCentral to this article is the idea of being a "participant", of being an involved actor. conceptually, being a participant is quite distinc from being an external observer, standing over against-or apart from- what we are researching into learning about. the focus on participants leads us to an emphasis on our involvenments in everyday activity and practices, rather than to a concern with talk about theories in seminar rooms and conference halls. as academics, the world of everyday activities and practices is not very familiar to us. a whole new way of being in the world is required of us, if we are to come to an effective understanding of it.
