Isi artikel
The author examines instructional computer simulation from a Heideggerian point of view, claiming that traditional conceptions of simulation do not account for important characterictics of existence-anxiety and waiting. the typical simulation removes anxiety from simulated experience. however, anxitey, as described by Heidegger, is an important characteristic of existence. anxirty is not a pyychological phenomenon but a mood that has the potential to make us aware of our existential condition. furher, in simulation, we never have to truly wait for anything ; simulation puts phenomena at our disposal. for Heidegger, simulation as a modern technology, discloses the world as Bestand (standing reserve). in Bestand, we see things only in anthropocentric terms, as a power source. although anxiety and waiting cannot be simulated, the author provides four ways in which these conclutions about simulation and technology can inform instruction.
