Isi artikelOver the last decades, gobalization has accelerated, affecting all aspects of life in numerous ways and making national economics increasingly integrated and interdependent. Though opening up unprecedented opportunities for national growth, the forces of globalization carry the threats of economic and political instability. This article attempts to describe the myths and risks of globalization focusing on regional disparity, socio-economic inequality and the consequences of increased reliance on volatile international capital flows as a source of macro-instability. The nature of economic insecurity is then discussed with specific examples from both developing and industrial countries. Questions on the future of capitalism will also be discussed in conjunction with critical issues. In the concluding section, the author asserts that globalization should not lead to an ever-widening gap between the poor majority and the wealthy few, further inflaming passions that have already brought prople into the streets for demonstration.
