Fiscal decentralization gives more advantages for regions to manage their own fiscal capacities. Regional governments have opportunity to increase the economic efficiency because they have informational advantages concerning with resource allocation. They are in a better position to provide the kind of public goods and services that closely meet the local needs. Fiscal decentralization policy started when local government was still managing to eliminate the effects of financial crisis starting from 1997. Consequently, the local governments have different level of fiscal readiness. Besides it also started when disparity of local economic growth was at peak level. This study is intended to examine the effect of fiscal decentralization on economic growth. It also tends to compare the economic growth during the implementation of fiscal decentralization is significantly better than before the implementation. The other result shows that the regions with better economic growth before fiscal decentralization still have better economic growth during the implementation of fiscal decentralization.
