The purpose of learning a target language is to be able to communicative in the target language. This means that, at the end, students learning English should be able to use English indepedently. To reach this purpose, students should practise to learn independently and take greater responsibility of learning English. Based on these reasons, the English Department of Widya Mandala Catholic University has set up a self-access center. In order to develop this center so as to cater for the students' needs, this survey was conducted. The result of the survey shows that most of the center users visited the center and made use of the resources based on their own needs. They also stated that this center was an enjoyable and approproate place to study beyong thei class contact hours. They also stated that it was encouraging to have the freedom whether they would like to learn alone or with friends. Most of the respondents liked to use certain materials such as videos, linstening materials, CD-ROM, and games. Only a few of them stated that they liked to work with the self-access materials. As a whole, it can be concluded that SAC supports the students in their learning at tha English Department and therefore the existence of this center should be maintained and the continual development on the resources and learner training should be conducted.
