Isi artikel
Process oriented instruction is defined as instruction aimed at teaching thinking strategies and domain specific knowledge in coherence. It is characterized by a gradual tranfer of control over learning process from instruction to learners. This new conception of instruction is derived from psychological research on the way students learn and on the interplay between self-regulation and external regulation of learning. The outline of this instructional theory, which gives a central place to learners and their learning and thinking activities, is sketched. The design principles of process oriented instruction are described. The theory can be located within the constructivist movement in instructional design that has recently arisen. Some recent empirical studies on process oriented instruction are described to illustrate the effects. Finally, directions for future research are given.
