This study was designed as a pretest posttest control group design. The subjects were 228 students of Atma Jaya university. the objectives of this study were : 1) to investigate the effects of metacognitive training in improving student's learning strategies, and 2) to study the effects of field of study in the improvement of students' learning strategies. To improve students' learning strategies means to bring about a qualitative change in how learning is processed, internally and externally regulated, and conceptualised. Students in the experimental group were trained with for comprehension strategies : questioning, clarifying, summarizing and making preodiction of the given text. A quantitative analysis of the results of this study showed that metacognitive training is effective for improving strategies in learning. The results also indicated that the improvement of strategies in learning are related to the students field of study.
