Isi artikelForty preterm neonates (20 of control and 20 of stimulated groups) with mean gestational age 33.6 weeks and mean birth weight 1.600 g were included in this study. The tactile-kinesthetic stimulation was given to the stimulated group consisting of 15 minutes body stroking and passive movements of the limbs for 3 consecutive hours per day for 10 days. The stimulated group had the average of a 33.53% greater weight gain per day than the control group. It showed significant weight gain per day difference between the stimulated group (mean of 17.15 g) and the control one (mean of 11.40 g) with pE-8. There was a significant greater amount of milk consumption per unit body weight per day in the stimulated group (mean of 167.59 ml) compared to the control (group mean of 146.46 ml) with pE-5. Weight gain is one important parameter employed to determine the discharge suitability of the preterm infants. Rapid weight gain means a shorter hospital stay, thereby resulting in reduced financial burden. These data suggest that tactile-kinesthetic stimulation maybe a cost effective way to facilitate growth in the preterm neonates. Further studies are necessary to determine the long-term value of early intervention and the apparent ability of infants receiving an enrichment program to utilize growth more efficiently in the preterm neonates.
