Isi artikelThe Cultural Manifest was written and signed by a group of independent, non-partisan writers, artists, and intellectuals who were known as devoted supporters of Pancasila in Jakarta on August 17, 1963. But it was banned by President Soekarno on May 8, 1964 because his Political Manifesto Manipol was delivered on August 17, 1959 could not tolerete any other manifesto. Moreover, the manifest was accused for politically reactionary and counter revolutionary because of its emphasis on religious humanism-a blend of the religiosity and humanity elements of the Pancasila philosophy. The Manifest's untimely disappearance let the communist cultural organization LEKRA's campaign under the banner of "Politics is the Commander" march forward unchallenged in shaping the Indonesian cultural revolution. The Manifest Affair apparently has given us a hard lesson, namely the conscience of man can be defeated but it cannot be destroyed.
