Marine resources in indonesia have possibilitites to be developed. Marine areas in indonesia span some 5.8 million square miles or two-thirds of total area of this countrt, Furthermore land in Indonesia becomes very limited due to the development process that greatly ignores environmental equilibrium. The challenge of marine resources development is relatively great since the available data is neither complete nor integrated. Presently manpower resources really do not fully understand the management of marine areas. This paper has attempted to discuss the role of the Indonesian governmention developing its coastal and marine areas.
