Formally, Foundation as legal institutions have developed based on the customs of Indonesian people. The main purpose of its formation is social prosperity and humanitarian. Initially laws did not sanction the establishment of foundations, except regulation was provided for companies, firms and CV (Commanditer Venootschaap). Basically, foundation are not formed for business orientation. Therefore activities of foundations were not popular until 1980. The legislature and government is presently discussing a law on foundation in their next session. Indeed with increasing popularity of foundations in the community a law on foundation would be timely and overdue in our country.
