The potential of maritime resources in Indonesia water territory is quote abundant. However as an archipelago state, Indonesia has not developed into a maritime state yet. Furthermore, maritime development is different than land development. Marine development involves state law, accomodation, and jurisdiction both nationally and internationally. Potential marine resources include renewable resources, unrenewable resource, unrenewable oils, and sea transportation. In order to manage maritime resources properly, an integrated approach is needed, well planned, anticipative to maintain sustainable maritime, resources, To achieve this purpose, maritime information systems are needed to provide inexpensive and accurate information for planning and decision making at each step of maritime development.
