Indonesia is an archipelago nation with about 200 milion inhabitants whose majority are Muslim. Between 1996 to 1998 pilgrims to the Holy Land have increased on average about 1.73% annualy. In anticipation of increase of pilgrims, the government has made available six pilgrim embarkation airports, where Boeing B-767/747 and Douglas DC-10 can be used. Furthermore, smaller planes such as Fokker F-28/100 are used for domestic flights. Many chalengges are faced by pilgrims air travel such as late arrivals and unaccompanied bagage of pilgrims. Solutions to problems are : 1) improvement of regional infrastructure and 2) proficiency of human resources and better management of pilgrims.
