When the economic crisis hit Indonesia, many private companies collapsed. Conglomerate bussiness collapsed due to enormous debt that affected the nation's economy, including government and private debtors. This problem had a tremendous effect on the New Order regime that claimed that the nation's economy was fundamentally strong. However, many conglomerate companies were in fact financially weak. One reason for this weakness was that these companies did not implement good coporate governance / GCG where one of its priciples is transparency especially in financial statement reporting. If all companies in Indonesia could implement GCG principles in their business goals and orientation, then they could have a lot of advantage such as building their companies' image to attract foreign investors and help them to create a situation that could support investment. Furthermore, they could also have power to compete, and finally they could have the chance and opportunity to compete in business in the globalization era.
