The shift of emphasis from the teacher to the learner in the teaching and learing process should actually encourage teachers to pay more attention to the learners' characteristics, one of which relates to their learning styles which put learners into a scale of field dependence and field independence. Learners with different learning styles are supposed to emply different learning strategies in approaching any learning task. With 30 subjects at a workshop who were mostly English teachers at high school adn university levels, this study would like to find out : 1) what kind of reading strategies F1 and FD people use in comprehending a reading text and 2) to what extent the strategies used by F1 and FD people influence their reading achievement. The result of the study proves that F1 and FD people, tend to use somewhat different strategies to comprehend a reading text and in terms of the result of their comprehension achievement, it can be tentatively concluded that F1 people have a better reading achievement than the FD group.
