The global economic crisis in the 80s cannot be considered the primary cause of the present prolonged economic depression. The crisis in the early era of Indonesian economic development in 1967 and early 1982 were well tackled. The prolonged crisis began again in 1998 at the time when development efforts in economic reform began. Presently, the economic depression is mainly due to failure of the former New Order Regime in managing the economy by utilizing existing economic tools. Learning from this experience, the nation faces the new economic crisis with optimism.
