The interpretation of women leadership in islam often becomes a debats. It is regarded as a polemic and an exercise of judgement on the basis of the Qur'an and the prophet's Sunnah. today, interpretations tend to be gender biased. The understanding of the interpretation influences social ethics, especially for Muslims, and generally for the entire society. It has an impact on the role and status of women. To decrease the gender bias, women empowerment via mubaligah (women preacher) is urgently needed. The study was condected by using qualitative approach based on women's perspective. The result revealed that understanding of mubaligah was varied due to their deifferent religious educational background. Some approved gender equality following the concept of modern Islamic feminism, and others disapproved influenced by traditional islamic interpretation.
