Attention to public policy studies in the sphere of political science in Indonesia is rare. There are many factors that cause less attention on public policy such as the strong assumption that public policy studies are grouped together with administration studies and not political science, minimal knowledge that public policy could be correlated with political, economic and social parameters, besides this is relatively new field of study. Furthermore, the increase in function of government and the complexity of social and political problems faced by the government and society forced social scientist to pay more time on public policy study. Its goal is to support government and society to provide alternatives to policies and further to provide comprehensive political decision for the state and society. This article attempts to describe theoretical background within the sphere of public policy studies, which suggest it to be conducted within the framework of dynamic and academic discource in this field of study.
