Isi artikel
The educational system in the colonial era is quite similar to the educational system in the New Order era. Colonial education had several major characteristics. First the main focus of education was to develop skill labor. Second, the curriculum was designed to fulfill the needs of industry and business. Third, selences were Birited to social engineering, which suported the interest of industry and business. Fourht, the educational system was based on race and elite as part of its discrimination politics. Fifth, the education was based on neutral values as shown by Ethnical Politics. This system was rejected by indigenoud elite through a cultural struggle by means of building indigenous schools such as Sarekat Islam or Islamic Union School in Semarang and Taman Siswa in Jogja. Meanwhile the reality of educational system of the New Order was based on a dogmatic attitude and authoritarian policy. The educational policy had a centralized curriculum and considered teachers and formal schools as the only source of education.
