Minangkabau is known as a matrilineal society whereby one's lineage is determined by the mother's side. A number of studies have indicated that not many socities in the world practice this system. Hence a study of the address systems of Minangkabau society is an interesting endeavor. This study attempts to explain the Minangkabau social system with the emphasis on the language used by children and teenagers. For children, the address term zero cannot be used. For teenagers, on the other hand, apart from the address terms created by the teenagers, zero is also used.
