The global era is rapidly transforming the cultures of many nations; Bahasa Indonesia is also susceptible to these changes. One of the expected effects of globalization is that Bahasa Indonesia will develop a richer vocabulary and will become a better means for expressing intellectual thoughts. The present paper attempts to sketch the relation between the political refonns in Indonesia and the vocabulary development in the national language. It also discusses how Bahasa Indonesia might adapt itself in the global era.
