Isi artikelLanguage teachers and management trainers share a common interest in communication. The ultimate gQal of language teaching is that the learner should be able to communicate in the foreign language. How well he will need to communicate depends on his reasons for learning the language in the first place; total bilingualism, in the sense of equal proficiency in more than one language is a very rare phenomenon indeed. Similarly, the management trainer has as a central goal for his students the attainment of an appropriate level of communicative skill. It is commonplace for educationalists and, indeed, for people in general, to ’explain’ managerial inefficiency, in part, at least, in terms of ’breakdowns in communication,’ ’bad communications’ and so forth.
