The object of this study is to investigate the use of questions in medical texts. Six medical journals were studied to find the incidence of questions, to see what kind of publications they are prevalently used in, and for what purpose. A large number of questions were found in the material, particularly in editorials and letters. This paper will discuss their use in the organization of discourse and as part of the rhetorical devices used by authors.
