In this paper we discuss the relevance and meaning of Criteria 2000 formulated by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) from the philosophical point of view in the context of the advancement of higher engineering education in Indonesia. The most important point to be considered is how to make the higher engineering education program communicative, creative, competitive, and to enhance the students’ motivation to grow towards integral, mature, and seffreliant persons.
