Analogical inference was used to give one of the two constants of integration in the solutIon of the Hertz potential cllfferentiaI equetlon its proper physical interpretation. thereby, the differential equation which supposedly is valid only in a sourceless region could be used to derive the quasistatic electromagnetic field in the Fresnel zone and the electromagnetic wave in the Fraunhofer zone, whose source is a sinusoidally pulsating Hertzian dipole.
