The use of diode lasers as light sources for optics related experiments and products has been increased very fast during the last decade. The switching from analog signal processing into the new remarkable digital processing in audio and video entertainment products owes a great deal to the development and research on diode lasers. This article presents a short review on basic theory and characteristics of diode lasers, as well as ideas to improve its beam quality and how to build its current driver to start a new challenging experiment on the diode.
