Pili of enteropathogenic bacteria having hemagglutinin activity has been proved to be a colonization factor. It has been isolated a 48 kDa hemagglutinin protein frompili of V. cholerae O1 strain T79-6, but the role of a 48 kDa protein in adhesion to the intestine has not yet been clarified. This report attempts to describe the role of 48 kDa protein in colonization. The result might provide information on the first step of V. cholerae pathogenesis. Antipilus polyclonal antibodies were prepared by immunizing chckens with 48 kDa protein pili. This polyclonal antibodies were used to identify hemagglutinin protein of pili of V. cholerae. The result suggests that anti 48 kDa of polyclonal antibodies could recognize four protein of pili with molecule weight of 48 kDa, 36 kDa, 30 kDa, and 21 kDa.
