AFTA is a form of regional trading cooperation with some exception viz. special preferences which are reciprocal change amongst member states of AFTA, exclusively enjoy just for the member states. AFTA is an effort to improve prosperity surrounding ASEAN region based upon ASEAN spirit, therefore each member state has the duty of harmonisation so that the gap of regulation does not become an obstacle of the impelementation of AFTA. The fundamental regulation of AFTA is article XXIV GATT 1994 which allowes countries with geographically close to create cooperation in a free trade area and custom union. This cooperation in term of international trade of law can perform as trading block through economic integration.
