Isi artikelDuring breeding seasons of milky Stork (mycteria cinerea) in January-July 2000 at Pulau Rambut Wildlife Sanctuary, bird banding was conducted for eight chicks of Milky Stork. The objective of bird banding was to evaluate and monitor population of Milky Stork in the mainland of Java. Banding chicks is the suggested method for Ciconiid family including Milky Stork species. In pilau Rambut, Milky stork commonly places the nest in large trees. Due to low accessibility to reach the nest, tree climbing equipment was used during bird banding. The minimum age of chicks banded were between 45-50 day old which indicated by black down feather in capital area, older than this age the chicks were able to fly and banding activities would be more difficult. The chicks was directly captured in the nest and transported down to be banded and returned back in the nest after that.
