In this article a case is made out for an extra phase of training for adult students beginning to study a foreign language. It is argued that such students profit greatly from an introduction to the types of activityand study attitudes that will be expected of them in the language course, as their own experiences of the classroom may be radically different from what the language teacher intends. Components for such a phase are outlined and a sample programme is offered.
