This article falls into two parts. The first looks at models and metaphors for teacher education, with special attention given to the reflective model. The second and major part focuses on a part-time graduate TESOL education programme, run within the University of Sydney, Australia. Certain problem areas are identified. These relate to the student teacher participants, on the one hand, and to the compilation and administration of observation schedules, on the other. Strategies which have been implemented in an attempt to solve these problems within a reflective approach to teacher education are then detailed and evaluated.
