Isi artikel
This paper reports on a small-scale study of the outcomes generated by fifteen underachieving EFL university writers copying text displayed computer monitor under pressure of time. Copying in this way is a strategy which is frequently used by both good and poor learners in examination conditions when obliged to provide a clean copy of first draft compositions within a limited time. Analysis of students' copied I showed that various inaccuracies which were not in the original had passed into the copied version, apparently unnoticed. Subsequent analysis of the copied texts revealed that interference, principally from the L1 (Spanish) but on occasions from an L3 (German), had adversely affected what had been written. Strategy training has used these outcomes students identify and eradicate potential inaccuracies in written composition.
