Indonesia is in the midst of a monumental efort to rebuild its financial system at the same time that it is attempting to restructure its political system, its central regional governmental relationships, and its industrial and commercial sectors. Any one of these undertakings would be difficult under the best of circumstances. Trying to address all of them simultaneously, while still in the midst of a severre recession and political uncertainty, is truly a formidable undertaking.
