Australia's new uniform divorce law and some of the problems of administering Government assistance to marriage-counseling services are outlined. Information collected from the approved marriage-guidance organizations during the first two years the Act was in force provides a basis for discussion of the effects of Government assistance on counseling organizations and on client population. The view is advanced that the encouragement of marriage counseling is potentially one of the most socially important features of the new law.
