Isi artikelThis paper reports some per- sonal observations reganling a second language teaching situation where non-native speakers of Portugueseparticipated in class discussions via real time computer networks. Synchronous computer networks have been utilized in univer- sity courses to improve group participation in writing and composition in Ll situations. This same process offers L2 an opportunity to par- ticipate in interlanguage discussions via com- puter. Preliminary observations from this ex- perience suggest that computer assisted class discussions may promote incremedprticipation from all members of a work group, allow stu- dents to speak without interruption, reduce anx- iety which is frequently pment in om1 conversa- tions, render honest and candid expression of emotion, provide personalized identification of target language errors and create substantial in- terlanguage communication among L2 learners.
