Isi artikelUsing a historical approach, the author explores some empirical evidence of the economic system worldwide since the XVI century. In case of indonesia, the "national" economy was running independently during the majapahit era. Later on, mercantilism by european companies such as VOC, dominated the economic system for 3,5 centuries. In 1870, an agrarian law was implemented by the dutch colonial government in hindia belanda (indonesia), which was highly accommodating to U. K. and U. S. foreign investment. This, then was the first foreign investment law to be applied in indonesian economic history, rather than the 1967 law under new order in the modern economy a century letter. Concerning national current issues, the author says that the issues of disparities, conglomeration and some difficulties tin creating anti - monopoly laws are not the real technical problems to be solved. The more important thing and the most basic question is whether or not we are ready to be democratic, ready to transform progessively and even radically, to create a modern political system. This means that typical phenomena such as unnatural power monopoly and collusion between bureaucrats and capitalists will have to end.
