Right now we are in a global world. One important characteristic of global world is tougher competitions in all fields of business. In order to win the competitions, a company has to have better performances. The performance level of a company depends on how well it manages. The performance level of a company depends on the performance of its top executives. One factor which can affect their performances effectively is compensation. Realizing this, american companies have developed a compensation strategy for their top executives, which is known as the over compensation strategy. There are two reasons why the american companies develop this strategy. First because there is an the excess of demand for top executives exists, second in order to motivate top executives. Is the strategy effective ? From the company's performance point of view, some experts say that the strategy is not effective, but some others say it is appropriate to all american cultures. If the strategy is implemented in indonesian companies, will it be effective ? Unfortunately, there has been no research conducted interms of company's performance. But, regarding cultural appropriateness, it can be said that indonesian companies cannot implement the over compensation strategy as it is. It has to be modified it so it appropriate to indonesia culture. One modification which can implemented is by using the quantitative criteria in the performance evaluation of the top executives.
