Isi artikelThis article briefly discusses the impacts of business paradigm shift on the changes in orientation and activities of human resources management. Changes in business environment (such as economic, political and social) cause changes in the business paradigm. In order to survive in the era of stiff competition, a company should adjust all dimensions of the organization in accordance with the demand of the environmental change. The company response to the change may start from reformulation of vision, mission and corporate values of the company, which in then followed by changes in the company strategy, organizational structure, system and procedure (e. g. compensation & promotion system) staffing, skill and style (e. g. leadership and decision making). There should be an alignment among these dimensions if the company is expected to function effectively. When the change on the dimensions requires reduction on the number of employees, the company is expected to provide training to cope with the effects of lay - off. Training in such areas as small scale entrepreneurship and job hunting would serve this purpose well.
