This paper reopens the long-winded discussions and controversies about the validity and utility of Contrastive Analysis for language teaching. In the past few years the pendulum has swung away from Contrastive analysis in favour of Error Analysis on the plea of being more realistic. This study investigates an area where Contrastive Analysis has more chance of being practicable.
