Isi artikelIn october 1988 the banking industry was deregulated which substantially increased the competition. The cmprehensive deregulation include an improvement in prudential regulations and the supervisory framework, a further reduction in the scope of credit programs, further relaxation in the control of interest rates, a loosing of barriers in the banking industry. As a result since 1988 growth of the financial sector has been dramatic. The relaxation on branching requirements and competition led a dramatic increase in the numbers of bank officers, especially of private domestic bank whose branches expanded rapidly. The deregulation also introduced some problems in the bank industry. The problem of loan appeared to have risen in the period if rapid expansion after the deregulation that lead to financial distress. A number of banks with problems have already emerged and have been rescued by arranging for a merger or take - over by another bank. In this article emphasize the impact of the 1988 deregulation policy onthe banking industry and anticipate the prospect of banking industry.
