While these texts offer students valuable opportunities to interact with the language, they are inherently limiting. We are suggesting that adding "modern" literary texts to a learner's experience can provide them with greater opportunities for communication and negotiation, but first they need to be made more accessible. The five tasks suggested here adapt a literary critical approach, where the students search for "real" tangible clues within the text in order to uncover meaning.
