Isi artikel
Even though literature is used in different ways in the language classroom, for example as a resource for language learning or as an item of study in itself, the type of text usually selected for use is traditional in content and in structure. While these texts offer students valuable opportunities to interact with the language, they are inherently limiting. We are suggesting that adding "modern" literary texts to a learner's experience can provide them with greater opportunities for communication and negotiation, but first they need to be made more accessible. The five tasks suggested here adapt a literary critical approach, where the students search for "real" tangible clues within the text in order to uncover meaning. We see both the process and the product of these activities as being of great benefit to the reader.
