Isi artikel
Membrane is a polymer which can be synthesized by different kind of monomers. Characteristics of membrane influence by permeability and permselectivity. The purpose of this research is looking for the optimum membrane. Cellulose acetate microporous membranes have been made by mixing cellulose acetate, formamide and acetone in varied compositions. Variation composition were made between celluloce acetate and formamide. The membrane process is phrase inversion technique. These membranes were tested for filter bacteria (eschericia coli) of well water by ultrafiltration process. The results showed that higher concentration of cellulose acetate resulted in higher permselectivity but lowers in permeability. The optimum composition was obtained for membrane with composition of 15 % (w / w) cellulose acetaet, 35 % (w / w) formamide) and 50 % (w / w) acetone, and the average membrane thickness is about 150 nm. The optimum result from this condition, i. e. a flux of 25.720 L /m2 .hour and separation factor or rejection of bacteria (eschericia coli) of 98.10 %.
