Isi artikelThe qualitative behaviour of separation and reaction processes in a modified porous membrane reactor (MPMR) was studied through a one - dimensional mathematical model, cyclohexane dehydrogenation reaction was used as a reaction model in this study. In an MPMR, solid catalyst is placed in both tube and shell side to increase performance. This dehydrogenation reaction is set to occur at 493 K and atmospheric pressure on 0,5 % Pt / Alumina. Vycor - glass membrane is used as an inner pipe. It's surprising that mechanism of separation and reaciton processes in a modified porous membrane reactor follows the series and parallel reaction mechanism. The crucial parameters, i. e. inert permeation rate constant (Gn) and permeability ratio of hydrogen to inert gas (S(HN)), are introduce dot explain the performance of porous membrane reactor. It is found that in MPMR with low G(N) value, conversion is controlled by permeation rate, while in MPMR with high G(N) value conversion is controlled by reaction rate. The optimum membrane characteristic can also be predicted with this one - dimensional mathematical model.
