Isi artikel
This article describes an approach to teaching pronunciation in an era when the teaching of pronunciation has been somewhat neglected. The target group consists of a number of Chinese and Korean chemistry teaching assistants at a large North American University. The article reviews the literature on International Teaching Assistants (ITA) training and pronunciation teaching, and provides a rationale for cognitively based, field-specific materials focusing on stress, rhythm, and intonation. The rationale for the materials is based on the students' pronunciation needs and intelligibility considerations. The materials are described and examples of exercises are presented. The materials are then evaluated and their merits discussed.
