Isi artikel
We used excised human larynges to produce Fo changes perceived as stress in two ways: by manually rotating the cricothyroid articulation and by changing subglottal pressure. According to our results, it is possible to bring about a perceivable stress by either of these mechanisms. However, an increase in vocal fold tension also caused a marked rise in subglottal pressure, suggesting that in normal speech there is considerable interaction between these mechanisms. Rotation produced larger Fo changes than considerable pressure changes alone.
