Isi artikel
This article presents a promising alternative to the two well-known speech synthesis methods: synthesis-by-rule and concatenative synthesis. These latter methods are based on description, stylization or storage of natural data. To these essentially descriptive methods we oppose a new approach, inspired by motor control theory, where speech is considered as the consequence of articulatory task-oriented gestures which satisfy a set of constraints. These constraints come from kinematic properties of the controlled biological system and dynamic constraints issued by the phonological task. We propose a model of control for an anthropomorphic articulatory model which is able to solve problems with excess degrees of freedom according to explicit constraints imposed on any level of control. Preliminary results indicate that such a model can cope with compensation and anticipation.
