Trachoma is a chronic keraticonjuctionvitis due to infection by chlamydia trachomatis. It is the oldest and the most common disease ever known to men. It is still rampant among the world's population causing untold missery and suffering to it's victims. The capacity of trachoma to cause blindness and economic loss all over various places in the world including indonesia, has put it in the same forefront in the battle againsts disabling diseases. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of trachoma among the students of Trisakti University and the factors influensing it. This study included 950 new students accepted on the year 1988. They are examined the whole body and especially their eyes for the presence of trachoma, By using questionairs, factors that might influence the incidence of trachoma are searched. The result of this study revealed that the prevalence of trachome among these students with good social economical background is 21.6%. This indicates that trachoma is still a mayor public health problem for the people with low as well as high socio economical background. It seems in this study that the educational background of the student;s mother and the history of previous bacterial conjuctivitis are important factors that influence the incidence of trachoma.....
