Effects of thiamin and thiamin antagonists (oxythiamin and pyrithiamin) on plasma glucose, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, total cholesterol and protein total levels were studied in chickens. Thiamin deprivation, treatment with oxythiamin and pyrithiamin resulte in a significant decrease in plasma glucose levels as compared with those controls. Thiamin deprivation, treatment with 2.0 mg and 4.0 mg thiamin resulted in a significant decrease in plasma lactic acid levels as compared with those controls. Treatment with oxythiamin resulted in a significant increase in plasma lactic acid levels. Treatment with pyrithiamin no such change in plasma lactic acid levels as compared with those controls. Thoamin deprivation, treatment with pyrithiamin and oxythiamin resulted in a significant increase in plasma total cholesterol as ompared with those controls. Thiamin deprivation, and treatment with pyrithiamin resulted in a significant increase in pyruvic acid levels as compared with those controls. Chickens which were suffered thiamin deficiency, after injecting with 2.0 mg thiamin, become better and growing normal again. The growth of male chickens were better than that of female.
