Isi artikelHeavy-equipment planning and management is an important stage to plait open-pit mining. It intends to select the kind and type of equipment according to dçsired job, high utility, optimum production cost, and customer satisfaction, which support to attain the contractual production capacity. The heavy-equipment is under the influence of contract volume, equipment capacity, weather, characteristic of jobs, available equipment, and equipment technology. According to aims of heavy-equipment planning, process of equipment is not a simple task It has a tendency that the issues are complex and unstructured/semi structured problems. eferring to the above issues, therefore decision maker needs appropriate and effective decisions to attain the aims of heavy-equipment planning. Employing information technology is an alternative solution to solve the problem; Development in the computer technology is a solution to do appropriate equipment planning and management. In the decision making process, decision maker needs a system to communicate with and take an action by decision maker ‘s previous experiences. Therefore we ‘II design an interactive .system in which can incorporate decision maker ‘s knowledge, experience, intuition, and analytic thinking. With the interactive svstenm, decision maker can analyze and solve the prohlenm 1w changing the decision variable (what-i analysis). This research intends to develop a decision support system in equipnment planning area, which has compatibility with open-pit conditions and requirenment. The system employs some models in processing data to get necessary specific information. The user/decision maker communicates with computer to get speqfic information to support appropriate decision in heavy-equipnment planning. The output of this system is specific information of equipment planning such as appropriate selection qf equipment, requirement capacity per hour, cost of equipment per hour, amount of heavy-equipment requirement, strategy in fulfillment of requirement capacity. and choosing appropriate alternative. These information as a basic consideration can help decision maker to determine policy of fulfillment of requirement capacity in equipment planning during the stated period of planning. Thus the problem of heavy-equipment requirement planning will he solved.
