This paper reports the result of a study aimed at identification of factors influencing Indonesian construction craftsmen’s motivation and their relationship to productivity. One hundred and five steel workers employed in the various sites in Yogyakarta during the period of October to December 1996 participating in this study. The study employed questionnaire supporting by interview technique in data collection process. Results indicate that five predominant factors that influence the steel workers’ motivation are: 1) good relationship with work-mates, 2) fairness of pay, 3) provision of responsibility, 4) continuity of work, 5) good direction superior. The five predominant factors influencing de-motivation of the workers are: I) inadequate of co-operation between workers, 2) discontinuity of work. 3) irrespective of the superior, 4) Inadequate competent of work-mates. 5) unsafe condition. Ihe study also indicates that there is a significant relationship between the workers’ motivation and their productivity.
